In this design concept, the user first logs in to the website to view their main calendar page. The screen name that the user has given will then be displayed at the top of the calendar page to show whose calendar is being displayed. The default view is in month setting of the current month but this default can be changed to either day, week, or month view by changing the preferences. The user can also change between display view quickly by choosing the day, week, or month link.
Because a user is more than likely to have different schedule according to different groups such as a schedule for class or a schedule for work, the user has the option to add as many sub-calendars and color code them or provide as much detail about them as necessary. To add a new calendar the user simply double clicks in the CALENDAR toolbar and the item NEW CALENDAR displays in the toolbar. When the user needs to add a new event they can add by double clicking in any blank space in the day, week, or month view display. This brings up the New Event Toolbar in which the user can edit the event according to time, date, location, notes, or participants. Under the Calendar Toolbar, the user can also add and edit participants in the sub-calendar. Each added participant link allows the user to email, view information, or see the participant’s calendar in a new window or incorporated in the user’s calendar for scheduling.
Another feature of this design is the ability to add and edit tasks in the TASK toolbar. The user can sort the tasks based on priority, calendar, date, color, or manually. Below the Task Toolbar is a small window that shows the user’s schedule at that time in a seven hour frame. This is to let the user now what they have going on at that time or within the next couple of hours. The feature allows the user to edit his or her schedule and calendar for other weeks or dates but not lose sight of what events they have for that day and time. A summary of events can also be displayed in list view at the bottom of the main calendar.
All of the features of this calendar design can be customized according to the user’s preference. The Task Bar and Daily Schedule toolbar can be hidden or displayed whenever necessary. Each toolbar can be moved according the user’s desired location of the features such as having the Task bar located on the top left side rather than the top right side of the calendar. Each event can also be dragged and dropped or added to the task bar and vice versa.
