Explanatory Narrative

After the user has authenticated, he/she is brought to a page which displays information relating to the short term (ie the next 16 hours). The idea behind presenting this information first, is that if the user is extremely busy (like Ophelia's bad day scenario) they have little time to waste. Therefore the information they need should be available quickly.

In the center of the overview page is a rolling sixteen hour view. The current time is always located at the top of the column to create an easy reference point. The reason that the range is sixteen hours is so that the user can see what is planned for tomorrow morning before going to sleep at night. On the left hand side of the overview page is a list of the groups. These groups can be re-ordered using drag and drop. The system will then you use the ordering of the groups on the left to order tasks within their respective due dates on the right. However, if a user wants to override the priority of a specific task they can drag and drop tasks as well, overriding the priority of the group that the task belongs to.

When the user clicks on the week view or the month view on the overview page, a long term calendar will appear (the right hand side of the sketch). The focus of this screen is for long term planning or the scheduling of a meeting. People's schedules can be added to this view by selecting the user name from the list on the left of the screen. As the user selects more people the system will shift from a block model of time to a gradient so as to facilitate planning meetings with large groups of people (one of our persona's tasks). Areas with the least amount of highlighting will represent when the most number of people are free. Once the user has decided when they would like to schedule their event, they can select a time range by dragging with their mouse. After the user has finished selecting a time range, the application will create an add event dialog in the left hand sidebar in order to allow the user to put in a name and location for the event. If the people coming to the event are all in the same group, the event will be added to the group. Additionally, all people will receive a notification that they have been invited to an event.
