Our names are Sean Munson, Sarah Oliver, and Jerzy Wieczorek. We are students at Olin College of Engineering studying people who eat and/or work in the Olin Dining Hall for a class on user-oriented design. We can be contacted by phone at 781.555.5555 (Sean Munson) or by email at [emails removed for spam protection]

This is a semester-long project. We will be around for the next few weeks, and then possibly return again later in the semester. The semester ends in early May.

We would like to talk to you about your experiences with the computer kiosk (point of sale system) at the entrance to the dining hall. We may also ask to observe you using the computer. We want to spend some time talking with youand observing your activities in order to come up with innovative design ideas that would be suited to your situation.

We do not anticipate that there will be any risks or discomforts to you as a participant in this project. Please do not disclose any information that you feel would put you at risk. We hope this will be a fun and interesting process for you. The benefits to you of this project will be possible ideas for how the system could be improved, though no implementation of these ideas should be expected. The benefits to our organization will be that we may come up with a design for the computer system that is easier to use.

We will take every reasonable effort to keep your identity confidential. For instance, we will not use your real name in research notes, course assignments or presentations.

The results of this research including field notes, records and photos that you or we take will be used for educational and research purposes. They will be placed on an Olin College educational website that is public and may be used in presentations by us and by Olin to illustrate the work that we do and/or to help advance engineering or educational work.

There will be no costs associated with your participation. We regret that we cannot pay you for your participation.

Participation is voluntary. You may discontinue your participation at any time without any adverse effects and with no hard feelings.

If you have any questions or concerns about the project, please contact our professor or us. Our professor is Lynn Andrea Stein, Professor of Computer and Cognitive Science. She can be reached at 781.292.2525 or by email at ---@olin.edu.
